Washington whitewater, Wind River

Skamania county, Mineral Springs to Stabler section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II     7.2 miles
The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Washington are often more challenging than in other states, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. This stretch of Wind River in Skamania County is 7.2 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. You might be into whitewater rafting or
kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have
to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The nature scenery of Washington and the water flowing gracefully down Wind River have people coming here. The wild scenery of the Northern Cascade Range is great. If you're coming from Hood River it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The campgrounds here
at Wind River are pretty good. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip.

Briefly about the general area:
On a perfect day at Wind River you can take a hike along the Soda Peaks Trail, and you undeniably must have a look at John B. Yeon State Park while you're here. You'll in fact wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the amusing stuff in the Northern Cascade Range. The Paradise Trail is a glorious hiking trail in the neighborhood of Wind River; a journey to Beacon Rock State Park when you're here is never a bad idea. If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure.
