Benton Yakima county, Confluence with Teanaway River to Thorp section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II     15.1 miles
This section of Yakima River in Washington is 15.1 miles long and is a class II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Benton/Yakima County and the water flowing gracefully down Yakima River beats anything. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Washington tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. The starting
location is a reasonable drive from Ellensburg, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Confluence with Teanaway
River to Thorp stretch is one of them. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your sleeping bag. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good places for that around here. When you're paddling down a Northern Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away
from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.

Briefly about the general area:
Good hiking is available along the Teanaway Wilson Stock Trail, and you'll meet a lot of people from Cle Elum here. There's no way someone can get bored here in the Northern Cascade Range. There's great hiking along the Miller Peak Trail; Horse Canyon is also a fine site to explore.
