West Virginia whitewater, Anthony Creek Greenbrier county, Neola to Blue Bend Recreation Area section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     10 miles   The beautiful scenery of West Virginia and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so don't forget that rivers in this state are less demanding. The Neola to Blue Bend Recreation Area stretch of Anthony Creek is 10 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. There's camping available     near Anthony Creek. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Neola to Blue Bend Recreation Area section is one of them. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camp stove. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. The put-in is not too far from Roanoke, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you   won’t get lost. Briefly about the general area: Everybody loves Watoga State Park, and do take a hike on the Slabcamp Trail. Waids Draft is a pleasant place to spend some time at, and Greenbrier State Forest is a splendid place to go. This is a great river. Have a tremendous hiking adventure along the Beaver Lick Mountain Trail. Anthony Creek is a relatively wet place mostly with much rain. The month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and February is when it's the driest. Through the warm days of summer at Anthony Creek highs are regularly in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 50's.
