Whitewater rafting and kayaking in West Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers in this state are not very demanding. This stretch of Big Coal River - Marsh Fork is 6.3 miles long and is a class II+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater.     This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Arnett to Dry Creek section is just one of them. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Beckley, as you can see on the road map   further down. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: Big Coal River - Marsh Fork is a site with many visitors from Arnett. Lick Hollow is right next door to Big Coal River - Marsh Fork and is unquestionably a tremendous place to pop by, and Twin Falls Resort State Park is a great place to stretch your legs a bit. This river has it all. Big Coal River - Marsh Fork is a wet site that gets much rain. The month with most of the rain is July while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. High temperatures at Big Coal River - Marsh Fork during the long summer days are in the 80's.
