  The Rockville to Jenkinsburg Bridge stretch of Big Sandy Creek is 5.3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V section. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in West Virginia are often more forgiving than in other states, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Morgantown, as you can see on the road map
    further down. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. On this section you do get some distance, you can
easily run it on an afternoon. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The scenic beauty of West Virginia and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. The Rockville to Jenkinsburg Bridge section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting  
or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places.

Briefly about the general area:
Here at Big Sandy Creek there are plenty of people from Masontown; if the weather is magnificent, you can go for a hike along the Mile Trail. Summertime highs at Big Sandy Creek frequently tend to be in the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Big Sandy Creek. From a precipitation point of view Big Sandy Creek is a rather normal site. Through July this area sees the most rain, and the driest month of the year is February.
