Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in West Virginia are easier than the national norm, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections in this state are pretty easy. The Alexander to Tenmile stretch of Buckhannon River in Upshur County is 9.4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III section.     You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. If you're coming from Clarksburg it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The Alexander to Tenmile stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch has has enough mileage,   you can easily run it on an afternoon. Briefly about the general area: Why not take a refreshing hike along the Rich Mountain Trail, and lots of folks from Tallmansville come here. Take a hike on the Wilderness Trail, and Holly River State Park is a wonderful site to stretch your legs a bit. This is such a wonderful river. Places like Audra State Park are good to stop by. High temperatures at Buckhannon River all through the summer months are in the 80's. Summer night lows descend down to the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 30's, and nighttime lows at Buckhannon River through the winter mostly sink into the 10's.
