The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Oak Hill, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This section of Buffalo Creek - Elk Tributary is 4.7 miles long and it is classified as a
    class I-II section by American Whitewater. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. You might be into whitewater
rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The beautiful scenery of Clay County and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. The Confluence with Taylor Creek to Swandale stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system.

At Buffalo Creek - Elk Tributary you always meet someone from Clay. Hiking along the Way Back Trail is wonderful fun. At Buffalo Creek - Elk Tributary throughout the days of summer highs are in the 80's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 60's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's, and night lows at Buffalo Creek - Elk Tributary through the winter mostly fall into the 10's.
