The Watergate Inn to Gauley River stretch of Cherry River is 9 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The wonderful Nicholas County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots.
| There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in West Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that rivers in this state are less demanding. Briefly about the general area: There is a great hiking trail in the neighborhood
of Cherry River called the Perry Ridge Trail, and during your spree here you'll meet some people from Fenwick for sure. Going for a hike on the Harris Siding Trail is always a wonderful adventure. Cherry River gets a large
amount of water. For the period of the month of July you get the most rain around here, and the driest of the months is January. Throughout the summer highs here at Cherry River reach the 80's.
