The beautiful scenery of West Virginia and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. The Big Rock Camping Area to Gauley River section of Cranberry River is 7 miles long and is a class II-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Oak Hill, please print out a copy |
of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river
| system, there are others too. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.

the Harris Siding Trail; the friendly folks of Camden On Gauley like to hang out nearby. Going for a hike along the Perry Ridge Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity. Cranberry River commonly gets
a good deal of precipitation. Most of the rain falls during July, and the driest month is January. All through the warmest time of the year at Cranberry River highs are typically in the 80's, and the nighttime is quite cooler
of course, ordinarily in the 60's. Highs during the winter are regularly in the 40's with temperatures at Cranberry River dipping down into the 20's all through winter nights.
