  The average West Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so don't forget that rivers in this state are less demanding. The nature scenery of Webster County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This section of Gauley River in Webster County is 9.5 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater.
    Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The Confluence with South Fork
to confluence with Turkey Fork section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. The starting location is a short drive from Clarksburg, as you can see on the road map further down. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more.

general area:
There's glorious hiking along the Turkey Mountain Trail, and a magnificent place nearby is Rocky Hollow. Good hiking is available along the County Line Trail; the good folks of Bergoo like to hang out close by. This river is always fun. Don't leave Gauley River without dropping by Holly River State Park. Gauley River commonly gets lots of rain. Through July this area sees the most rain while October is commonly the driest month. At Gauley River through the warm months highs are in the 80's. For the duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 50's.
