  Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. If you're coming from Oak Hill it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. The Donaldson to Camden-on-Gauley stretch of Gauley River in Webster County is 10.5 miles long and is according to American
    Whitewater a class I-II(III) section of whitewater. The campgrounds here at Gauley River are pretty good. The beautiful scenery of West Virginia and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything.
This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Donaldson to Camden-on-Gauley section is just one of them. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations  
in advance you're all set. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove.

Briefly about the general area:
At Gauley River you always meet someone from Camden On Gauley; the Adkin Rockhouse Trail is a wonderful hiking trail nearby. If the weather is great here at Gauley River, you can go for a hike along the Harris Siding Trail. Through the days of summer at Gauley River temperatures are generally in the 80's while night lows are commonly in the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's while Gauley River overnight low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 20's.
