West Virginia whitewater, Gauley River

Webster Nicholas county, Camden-0n-Gauley to Curtin Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II     9.8 miles
The nature scenery of West Virginia and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. The put-in location is a short drive from Oak Hill, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Camden-0n-Gauley to Curtin Bridge section is just one of many. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Getting your paddling muscles activated and
just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater
rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. The Camden-0n-Gauley to Curtin
Bridge stretch of Gauley River is 9.8 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section.

Briefly about the general area:
Gauley River is not far at all from Craigsville, and going for a hike on the Perry Ridge Trail is always a good adventure. Near Gauley River you come across the Harris Siding Trail which is a splendid hiking trail. All the water falling down from the sky makes Gauley River a wet place. July is the wettest month with most rain; January is when it's the driest. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Gauley River, and through the night it cools down to the 60's.
