  If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside West Virginia you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers in this state are less demanding. The nature scenery of Pocahontas County and the water flowing gracefully down Greenbrier River - East Fork are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Greenbrier River - East Fork in West Virginia is 8.9 miles long and has been
    determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but
if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Island Campground to confluence  
with West Fork at Durbin stretch is just one of them.

Briefly about the general area:
Good hiking is available along the Span Oak Trail, and naturally, A visit to Hawchen Hollow is always fun. A spree to Seneca State Forest invigorates the spirit, and don't leave Greenbrier River - East Fork without first going for a hike along the Burner Mountain Trail. This is a really good river. Monongahela National Forest is a great place to explore; at Greenbrier River - East Fork you always meet someone from Bartow. Greenbrier River - East Fork gets a good deal of water. The month of July is the wettest with most of the rain; February is when it's the driest.
