West Virginia whitewater, Howard Creek Greenbrier county, Hart Run to Confluence of Greenbrier River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-III     3.1 miles   The Hart Run to Confluence of Greenbrier River stretch of Howard Creek is 3.1 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-III section of whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in West Virginia are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but do book a room before you come because it is a very     popular destination. Howard Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Hart Run to Confluence of Greenbrier River section is the only one. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The beautiful scenery of West Virginia and the cool fresh water have people coming here. If you're coming from Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. This is a bit of a short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Briefly about the general area: Why not   take a refreshing hike along the Youngs Nature Trail; Greenbrier State Forest is a magnificent spot to stretch your legs a bit. Howard Creek is right by the South Boundary Trail, and Howard Creek is not far at all from Caldwell. This river is so wonderful. If you're here, you might as well explore Dynamite Hollow, and do take some time to stop by Greenbrier State Forest since you're here. Moncove Lake State Park is a charming place any time of year. Howard Creek commonly gets much rainfall.
