The East Rainelle to Russellville section of Meadow River in West Virginia is 15 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV+(V) section. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better     reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in West Virginia are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Oak Hill, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the East Rainelle to Russellville section is just one of many. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling   spots. Briefly about the general area: Babcock State Park is a pleasant site to pop by, and a cool spot to check out is The Loop. If you're visiting Meadow River from Lookout, you won't be the only one, and do take a hike on the Carnifex Trail. This river is so great. Meadow River is a relatively wet place usually with a lot of rain. Through the month of July you get the most rain around here, and February is when it's the driest. Summertime at Meadow River comes with high temperatures in the 80's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's generally in the 60's.
