The nature scenery of West Virginia and the cool fresh water have people coming here. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. There are many good hotels to choose from, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Places like Hawks Nest State Park are tremendous to explore, and Bluestone National Scenic River is one of the destinations that are wonderful to pop by close by. This river is so perfect. Babcock State Park is a good site to stop at, and Mill Creek - New River Tributary is a site with many visitors from Ansted. There's glorious hiking along the Carnifex Trail. The high level of rain makes Mill Creek - New River Tributary a quite wet location. Through July this area sees the most rain; February is when it's the driest.
