The Thurmond to Cunard section of New River in West Virginia is 7 miles long and it is classified as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in West Virginia are easier than the national norm, so don't forget that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. | to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers.

about the general area: Hawks Nest State Park is a fine site to take a look at, and a journey to Bluestone National Scenic River is worthwhile. There are plenty of people from Thurmond here at New River, and Babcock
State Park is a stunning location any time of year. At this river you will never have a bad time. On a great day at New River you can take a hike along the Carnifex Trail. New River is a wet place that gets a great deal
of precipitation. Of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
