The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in West Virginia are often more forgiving than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers in this state are less demanding. The campgrounds here at New River are pretty good. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but if you     don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The nature scenery of Fayette County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Cunard to Fayette Station stretch is just one of them. The Cunard to Fayette Station section of New River in Fayette County is 6.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV+(V) section of whitewater. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. A good workout and just hanging out with mother   nature are great reasons to come. Briefly about the general area: Since you're here at New River why not visit Toney Hollow; unsurprisingly, all our national parks are good places to stop at and Bluestone National Scenic River is no exception. Everybody loves Babcock State Park; during your tour here you'll meet some folks from Fayetteville for sure. If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure. Hawks Nest State Park is a glorious place; there is a nice hiking trail nearby called the Carnifex Trail. During the warm months, highs commonly are in the 80's at New River.
