The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Beckley, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling     places. The Tom Honaker Road to Bluestone Lake stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is a pretty short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. The average West Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The beautiful scenery of Summers County and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. For all you   camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: Everybody nearby loves skiing at Winterplace, and there are plenty of people from Nimitz here. Don't leave Pipestem Creek without visiting Little Beaver State Park; Bluestone State Park is a pleasant site to go. This river is so wonderful. Pipestem Creek regularly gets a large amount of precipitation. Most of the rain falls during July; the driest month of the year is February. Summertime highs at Pipestem Creek commonly tend to be in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows plunge down to the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's with temperatures at Pipestem Creek dipping down into the 10's through winter nights.
