  The put-in is not too far from Staunton-Waynesboro. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so keep in mind that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. The natural beauty of Pendleton County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The Confluence of Laurel Fork and Straight Fork to Cherry Grove section is

Branch in Pendleton County is 6.3 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. There aren’t any hotels  
right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.

Briefly about the general area:
The cheerful folks of Circleville like to hang out close by, and good hiking is available along the Big Mountain Trail. A tour to Potomac River - North Fork of South Branch wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Cold Spring. There's nice hiking along the Back Ridge Trail, and a short spree to Hendrick Farm Spring is always worthwhile. Summertime highs at Potomac River - North Fork of South Branch frequently tend to be in the 80's.
