  The starting point is not too far from Harrisonburg. The wonderful West Virginia scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. This stretch of Potomac River - North Fork of South Branch is 4.2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before
    you come because it is a very popular destination. The average West Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers
in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. The Head of Hopeville Canyon to Hopeville stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near.

Briefly about the general area:
 
Potomac River - North Fork of South Branch is a spot with many visitors from Seneca Rocks. Roy Gap is a good location to spend some time at, and there's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Canaan Valley. This river has so much to offer. The North Mountain Trail is a tremendous hiking trail in close proximity to Potomac River - North Fork of South Branch, and Seneca Rocks is a pleasant site to stop at while in the region. There is a nice hiking trail near Potomac River - North Fork of South Branch called the Boars Nest Trail. Through the warmest time of the year here at Potomac River - North Fork of South Branch, high temperatures ordinarily get into the 80's while overnight lows are regularly in the 50's.
