The CR 23 to Ruddle section of Potomac River - South Branch is 10.1 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Staunton-Waynesboro, as you can see on the road map further down. The scenic beauty of West Virginia and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch is long enough for an overnight |
trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in West Virginia are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections
| in this state are pretty easy. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. There's tremendous hiking along the North Mountain Trail; Evick Hollow is a delightful spot to stop at. The Miller Run Trail offers hiking at its best, and if you're stopping by from Franklin, you won't be the only one.
This river is a great place to visit. For the duration of the summertime at Potomac River - South Branch temperatures are commonly in the 70's; the overnight is rather chillier of course, commonly in the 50's. High temperatures
throughout the wintertime are normally in the 30's while Potomac River - South Branch nighttime low temperatures all through the wintertime are in the 10's.
