  The put-in is not too far from Harrisonburg, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This section of Potomac River - South Branch in West Virginia is 8 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. The wonderful Pendleton County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure
    to keep you coming back for more. The average West Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers in this
state are not very demanding. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. The Ruddle to US 220 section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because  
it is a very popular destination.

Briefly about the general area:
Near Potomac River - South Branch you hit upon tremendous spots like Long Hollow; hiking along the South Branch Trail is nice fun. You'll meet a lot of folks from Upper Tract here; Potomac River - South Branch is right by the North Mountain Trail. This is such a wonderful river. All the water falling down from the sky makes Potomac River - South Branch a wet place. July is the wettest month with most rain; the driest month of the year is October. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Potomac River - South Branch; during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's.
