West Virginia whitewater, Red Run

Tucker county, Ford at FS 13 road to confluence of Dry Fork section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS V+     4 miles
The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in West Virginia are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that rivers in this state are less demanding. The starting point is not too far from Morgantown, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The beautiful scenery of Tucker County and the water flowing gracefully down Red Run are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Getting some good exercise
and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well.
This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The Ford at FS 13 road to confluence of Dry Fork section of Red Run is 4 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V+ section of whitewater. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you
come because it is a very popular destination.

Briefly about the general area:
You're sure to encounter some cheerful people from Red Creek here. The beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Lester Falnagan Spring, and since you're here you can take a hike along the Mountain Side Trail. This river is always fun. Places like Blackwater Falls State Park are nice to stop at, and on a good day you can take a hike along the Limerock Trail. A day on the slopes of Canaan Valley is just what you need. Red Run sees pretty high levels of rainfall. Throughout the month of July you get the most rain around here, and the driest month is February.
