Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you

by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. The Coalton to confluence of Tygart Valley River above Norton stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Clarksburg, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. This stretch is mid  
length, it's good length for a morning trip. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good spots. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.

Briefly about the general area:
There's good hiking along the Laurel Run Trail, and Broad Hollow is certainly a glorious place to stop at. Everybody loves Audra State Park; magnificent hiking is available along the Chestnut Ridge Trail. This is a great river.
