The starting location is a reasonable drive from Beckley, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots     in West Virginia are easier than the national norm, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers in this state are less demanding. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Dameron to confluence with Marsh Fork of Big Coal River stretch is one of them. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. The beautiful scenery of Raleigh County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This is a pretty short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. No matter if you're whitewater   rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. Briefly about the general area: People from Fairdale love to come to Sandlick Creek, and a great place like Twin Falls Resort State Park is too splendid to leave out. Sandlick Creek is a reasonably wet place generally with a large amount of rain. Of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and January on the other hand is the driest. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Sandlick Creek. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 60's. Highs through the winter are ordinarily in the 40's with temperatures at Sandlick Creek dipping down into the 20's through winter nights.
