West Virginia whitewater, Thorn/Whitethorn Creek

Pendleton county, Moyers to South Branch of Potomac River confluence section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III(IV)     10.1 miles

Found this and one other old photo of this area in my grandmother's pictures. Says Peggy Batten (see picture)

If you're coming from Staunton-Waynesboro it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. The average West Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy.
Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This stretch of Thorn/Whitethorn
Creek in Pendleton County is 10.1 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III(IV) section by American Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camping stuff. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time
outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. The nature scenery of Pendleton County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything.

Briefly about the general area:
People from Franklin love to come to Thorn/Whitethorn Creek, and do take a hike on the Bother Ridge Trail. Jamison Farm Spring is an inspiring place to check out during your stay, and hiking along the Miller Run Trail is glorious fun. Coming to this river is always a good idea. A spree to Thorn/Whitethorn Creek wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Powder Mill Spring. Thorn/Whitethorn Creek gets a common amount of precipitation.
