If you're coming from Staunton-Waynesboro it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. The average West Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. |
Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This stretch of Thorn/Whitethorn
| Creek in Pendleton County is 10.1 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III(IV) section by American Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camping stuff. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time | |
