Wisconsin whitewater, Apple River St.Croix county, Somerset section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     2 miles   The Somerset stretch of Apple River in St.Croix County is 2 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The wonderful Wisconsin scenery and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. There's camping available near Apple River. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared     to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are not so many other good spots for that around here. The Somerset stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections in this state are pretty easy. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: Don't leave Apple River without visiting   William O'Brien State Park, and there are plenty of people from Somerset here. Willow River State Park is a great place to go if you're at Apple River, and if you're looking for a beach close by we recommend Browns Beach. This river is so great. Visiting Saint Croix National Scenic River is just something you need to do if you haven't yet. You can never get enough of the tremendous skiing at Trollhaugen. During the summertime months here at Apple River, high temperatures commonly reach the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 60's. Daytime highs throughout the winter are in the 20's; after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Apple River fall into the 0's.
