Wisconsin whitewater, Black River Clark county, to Neillsville section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     7.6 miles   When I do this run I put in at Christie, on a little canoe landing on the side of the highway and take out at the mill in Neillsville.  This stretch is great for beginners when the water is low, which is most of the year.  If you don't want to be dragging over gravel I would suggest going the day after a good rainfall.  But if you don't go right away, the water will probably be low. The starting point is not too far from Wisconsin Rapids-Marshfield, as you can see on the road map further down. The to Neillsville stretch of Black River in Clark County is 7.6 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. The campgrounds here at Black River are pretty good. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll   find lots of paddling spots. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers in this state are less demanding. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Briefly about the general area: At Black River you always meet someone from Neillsville. During the summer months at Black River highs are mostly in the 80's. Summer overnight lows fall down to the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Black River are in the 0's.
