Wisconsin whitewater, Black River Clark county, Neillsville to Lake Arbutus section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-III     12.5 miles   The Neillsville to Lake Arbutus stretch of Black River is 12.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-III section of whitewater. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so don't forget that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. The scenic beauty of Wisconsin and the water flowing gracefully down Black River make the trip here     worthwhile. There are some good hotels near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. If you're coming from Wisconsin Rapids-Marshfield it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. This   is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. Briefly about the general area: Black River State Forest is a delightful place, and the Silver Mound Trail offers hiking at its best. Black River is not far at all from Neillsville. A common amount of precipitation falls here at Black River. August is the wettest month with most rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Black River. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 50's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at Black River.
