Wisconsin whitewater, Black River Jackson county, Hatfield Dam to Power Plant section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III(IV)     3.2 miles   We ran this stretch on Friday evening and on Saturday morning.  If you choose to get out at the powerhouse it takes about a hour.  But we found that there is a good 18 inch ledge that is worth going the extra few miles to Halls Creek landing, which adds on about 45 minutes, so the trip is about 1:45 min.  There are a lot of nice class II drops and I would say there is a solid class III right before you get to the powerhouse.  If you're lucky,     on the third Saturday of April, May, June, July, August , and September they will open the dam at Lake Arbutis, but only if the conditions are good (rainfall).  Depending on how much water they let through, there can be some class IVs.  Very nice stretch with a lot of action. This stretch of Black River in Wisconsin is 3.2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III(IV) section. The nature scenery of Wisconsin and the cool fresh water beats anything. This is a pretty short section so   it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Wisconsin are easier than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding.
