Great river to kayak if there is water in it. Best to do after the snow melts in april through early may. Don't waste your time any other time of the year unless there has been a lot of rain. Says Matt Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so don't forget that quite a few of the     sections in this state are pretty easy. The natural beauty of Jackson County and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. The Trow Lake Dam to Black River section of Halls Creek in Jackson County is 9.7 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II   section. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Briefly about the general area: Black River State Forest is a wonderful site to go to, and going for a hike on the Silver Mound Trail is always a nice adventure. Lots of folks from Merrillan come to Halls Creek.
