  The Gile Falls to Highway 2 stretch of Montreal River - West Fork is 6.3 miles long and is a class II-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The natural beauty of Iron/Geobegic County and the playfulness of the water beats anything. The river winds through the Gogebic Range and you get great scenery. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The put-in location is a short drive
    from Merrill, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Wisconsin is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that
many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. No need to look hard for hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of spots for that. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come.
