  Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Wisconsin is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections in this state are pretty easy. The wonderful Wisconsin scenery and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Foster Falls to Highway 169 stretch of Potato River in Wisconsin is 7.2 miles long and is a class I-IV section of whitewater according
    to American Whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whitewater paddling here in the Gogebic
Range is a great experience. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Merrill, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. The Foster Falls to Highway 169 section is one of many paddling sections in this  
river system. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that.

Briefly about the general area:
At Potato River you always meet someone from Upson; a day on the slopes of Whitecap Mountain is just what you need. Having a good time in the Gogebic Range is simple. You without doubt have to have a look at Copper Falls State Park since you're here at Potato River, and Potato River is next to Island Lake which is a lovely spot. This is a really good river. Potato River gets a typical amount of annual rainfall.
