The wonderful Shawano County scenery and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so better not forget that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. This stretch of Red River is 7.75 miles long and is a class I-III(IV) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while |
have a lot of people coming here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The starting location is a reasonable
| drive from Oshkosh-Neenah, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There's camping available near Red River. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip.
