The Menomonie to Irvington section     of Red Cedar River in Dunn County is 3.9 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with not too many other places for that. This is a pretty short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so keep in mind that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. If you're coming from Menomonie it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page   with more info on that. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. Briefly about the general area: You'll meet a lot of folks from Menomonie here. The warmest time of the year at Red Cedar River comes with high temperatures in the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's, and after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Red Cedar River descend into the-10's.
