This section of Turtle River in Iron County is 16.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I(III) section of whitewater. or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. The beautiful Gogebic Range scenery is an added bonus. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near.

The scenic beauty of Wisconsin and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. Briefly about the general area: Lots of people from Mercer come to Turtle River; what would winter
be without some skiing at Big Powderhorn Mountain. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Gogebic Range. Summer brings highs in the 70's to Turtle River. Summer night lows descend down to the 50's. For the period of the
winter highs are in the 10's; night lows at Turtle River throughout the winter generally drop into the-10's. A typical amount of rainfall falls here at Turtle River.
