Wisconsin whitewater, Upper Tamarack River Douglas county, Radigan dam to Markville section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II(III)     13.3 miles   This stretch of Upper Tamarack River in Wisconsin is 13.3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II(III) section. The beautiful scenery of Douglas County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. The put-in location is a short drive from Duluth, as you can see on the road map further down. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance     then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. The campgrounds here at Upper Tamarack River are pretty good. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here   more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers in this state are less demanding. Briefly about the general area: People from Sandstone love to come to Upper Tamarack River, and while you're here you can take a hike along the Markville Snowmobile Trail. Throughout the warm months here at Upper Tamarack River, high temperatures mostly get into the 80's. All through the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 50's. Highs all through the wintertime are regularly in the 10's with temperatures at Upper Tamarack River dipping down into the-10's throughout winter nights.
