Wisconsin whitewater, Yellow River

Taylor county, Gilman to Mattes Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II     8 miles

What would be the best to go down the rapids in boat or raft? Says Tim Reinwand

The average Wisconsin whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. This section of Yellow River is 8 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. The wonderful Taylor
County scenery and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Gilman to Mattes Bridge section is one of them. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but
if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you're coming from Eau Claire it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. Some
people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came.
