Actually, the river is in the Gros Ventre range(pronounced Grow Vont). There is probably closer to 8 miles of boating for kayakers, or rafts at higher spring flows. The best section being below the confluence of Little Granite Creek. Says HCC
If you're coming from Jackson it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This section of Granite Creek |
in Teton Sublette County is 3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III section of whitewater. This section is quite short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. You
| might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good spots. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. The nature scenery of Teton Sublette County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make | |
|
you glad you came. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The river winds through the Wind River Range and you get great scenery. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult
than elsewhere, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're
all set.
Briefly about the general area: There is a great hiking trail right next door to Granite Creek called the Granite Highline Trail; going for a hike on the High Line Trail is always a pleasant adventure.
