If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving.
The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Flagstaff. The scenic beauty of Coconino County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. You might
have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large number of other places. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near.

Briefly about the general area:
You'll meet a lot of folks from Flagstaff here, and Weatherford Canyon is another glorious site to explore nearby. The Lava Flow Trail offers hiking at its best, and Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument is a glorious national park. This is such a wonderful river. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Walnut Canyon Loop Trail; a day on the slopes of Arizona Snowbowl is just what you need.
