The starting point is not too far from Johnson City. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that rivers here are less forgiving. The river winds through the Great Smoky Mountains and you get great scenery. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but do book a room before you   come because it is a very popular destination. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: A journey to Ivy Hollow is always fun, and USA Raft is a place with many visitors from Erwin. Whohoo, so many exciting things in one place! The Great Smoky Mountains is peerless! The snow is fine at Wolf Ridge, and fine hiking is available along the No Business Trail. This is such a wonderful river. Unaka Springs is a magnificent local attraction, and you can go for a hike on the Nolichucky River Trail.
