The Old Town 2nd Dam to Veazie Dam stretch of Penobscot River in Penobscot County is 6 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. | fill up quick. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good places. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon.

nearby is University Forest. There is a good hiking trail in the vicinity of Penobscot River called the Old Gold Mine Trail, and lots of people from Orono come here. This is such a wonderful river. During the summertime
at Penobscot River highs are ordinarily in the 70's with night lows in the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 20's, and overnight lows in the 0's for Penobscot River. Penobscot River usually gets a good
deal of precipitation. Most of the rain falls through November, and February is the month with the least moisture.
