Georgia whitewater, Moccasin Creek

Rabun county, Wildcat Road to Lake Burton section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III-IV(V+)     5 miles
The nature scenery of Georgia and the water flowing gracefully down Moccasin Creek will make you feel great. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. This section of Moccasin Creek in Georgia is 5 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV(V+) section by American Whitewater. This stretch is
mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds
nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Wildcat Road to Lake Burton section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. When you're paddling down a Blue Ridge Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. The put-in location is a short drive from Cornelia,
as you can see on the road map further down. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that.

Briefly about the general area:
Going to Moccasin Creek State Park near Moccasin Creek is a tremendous thing to do, and during your trip here you'll meet some folks from Hiawassee for sure. Now, you may feel that's a heap but there's even more cool stuff to do here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you wish for a little side trip, try Fuller Gap; going for a hike on the Hurricane Creek Trail is always a great adventure.
