CLASS I-III     6 miles
  This stretch of Dry River is 6 miles long and it is classified as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Virginia are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The starting location is a short drive from Harrisonburg, as you can see on the road map further down. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby
    campground. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled
as well. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. The wonderful Virginia scenery and the cool fresh water will make you feel great.

Good hiking is available along the
 
Dictum Ridge Trail; if you're here you will meet lots of folks from close by Dayton. Don't leave Dry River without first going for a hike along the Second Mountain Trail. The warmest time of the year at Dry River comes with high temperatures in the 80's, and the nighttime is fairly chillier of course, ordinarily in the 50's. Highs during the winter are regularly in the 40's, and nighttime lows during the wintertime for Dry River tend to be in the 10's. The annual rainfall here at Dry River is about average. July is the wettest month with most rain while January is mostly the driest month.
