This stretch of Barbours Creek in Craig County is 7 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. The put-in is not too far from Roanoke, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to     get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The Route 611 to Craig Creek section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Briefly about the general area: Good hiking is available along the North Mountain Trail, and people from New   Castle love to come here. Go for a hike on the Fenwick Nature Trail, and Barbours Creek is near Jefferson National Forest which is a gorgeous place. This river is so perfect. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Barbours Creek. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 60's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 40's while Barbours Creek overnight low temperatures throughout the wintertime are in the 20's. Barbours Creek is a good spot of common rainfall. July is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest of the months is February.
