Whitewater rafting and kayaking     spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Fincastle to James River stretch is one of them. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There's no way anyone can get bored here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Spec Mines Trail. Summertime highs at Catawba Creek commonly tend to be in the 80's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Catawba Creek fall into the 20's.
