  Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections in this state are safe for beginners. The put-in location is a short drive from Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford, as you can see on the road map further down. This section of Reed Creek is 8 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-IV section of whitewater.
    Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable
for an afternoon trip. The I-81 to New River stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. The beautiful scenery of Wythe County and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.  
When you're paddling down a Blue Ridge Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too.

Briefly about the general area:
Going for a hike along the Cliff Branch Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region. This is a popular place for people from Max Meadows, and while you're here you can take a hike along the Yellow Branch Trail. This is such a wonderful river. Throughout the warm months at Reed Creek highs are ordinarily in the 80's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are mostly in the 40's, and night lows during the wintertime for Reed Creek tend to be in the 20's.
