California whitewater, Stanislaus River - Middle Fork

Tuolumne county, Sand Bar Flat Dam to Camp 9 Powerhouse section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS IV-V+     14 miles
The beautiful scenery of California and the playfulness of the water beats anything. The put-in location is a short drive from Phoenix Lake-Cedar Ridge, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so better
not forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. When you're paddling down a Central Sierra Nevada river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. This section is long enough for an overnight
trip if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. The campgrounds here at Stanislaus River - Middle Fork are pretty good. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Sand Bar Flat Dam to Camp 9 Powerhouse section is just one of many. This stretch of Stanislaus River - Middle Fork in Tuolumne County is 14 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V+ section of whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby
but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places.

Briefly about the general area:
Columbia State Park is a nice place to stretch your legs a bit, and you'll meet a lot of folks from Twain Harte here. You clearly should like the Central Sierra Nevada.
