  The put-in location is a short drive from Pittsfield, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Upper Upper New Boston section of Farmington River - West Branch in Berkshire/ Hampden County is 5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II section of whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around
    here don't forget that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable for beginners. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if
you make reservations in advance you're all set. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. The scenic beauty of Berkshire/ Hampden County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too.

the general area:
Everybody loves Tolland State Forest, and the slopes of Otis Ridge are so inviting nobody can resist. Here at Farmington River - West Branch there are plenty of people from Otis, and Chester-Blandford State Forest is a tremendous place to go. At this river you will always have a good time. There are perfect places to look at along the Wild Cat Trail. Summertime highs at Farmington River - West Branch regularly tend to be in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 30's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Farmington River - West Branch descend into the 10's.
